The empire discussed in this data file is the Ferengi Trade Alliance. The Ferengi are one of the most primitive races you will encounter in space. Their psychological profile, while simple, is rather disturbing. Unlike the Cardassians, Khell'oann-Mhehorael, or Gorn, they are not fierce warriors. Quite to the contrary, the Ferengi are rather cowardly and are only slightly less deceitful than the Lloann'mhrahel. Their profile consists of seven primitive emotions or characteristics such as, greed, avarice, jealousy, and vengeance. Their whole basis of thinking is based on latinum or whatever passes for wealth and money, and that makes them highly unpredictable.
The typical male Ferengi is slightly impish in stature, standing between one and a quarter to one and a half meters tall, weighing between fifty and seventy-five kilograms, their primary facial features consisting of their razor sharp teeth, nose ridges, and their large and highly sensitive ears.
Sources have not been able to collect as much information on Ferengi females due to their reclusive nature. From what we do know, the female Ferengi is slightly smaller in stature and weight and their ears and nose ridges are not as well pronounced, however they still possess razor sharp teeth.
Ferengi technology is quite difficult to characterize, since the Ferengi will steal anything they can get their hands on, from ships to the bolts that hold the ship together. Most of the Ferengi fleet consists of a variety of ships ranging from merchant vessels equipped with modest offensive capabilities to over-glorified pirate cruisers. The Ferengi fleet appears to be used in most capacities quite frequently and repeatedly. While some Ferengi officers have been observed carrying conventional disruptors, their prime weapon of choice is the energy whip. A skilled Ferengi officer can yield a energy whip with as much skill and accuracy as another officer with a phaser or disruptor.
Ferengi society is a rather treacherous and loose association of individual Trade Alliances. These smaller Trade Alliances are compromised of individual Ferengi vying for wealth and power in a grander scheme of politics. In its simplest form, the Ferengi government is power, power and wealth, and wealth is the aspiration of every Ferengi male. The Trade Alliance, as a collective whole, is ruled by the Grand Nagus, the most powerful and affluent Ferengi. The Grand Nagus maintains his balance of power by collecting exorbitant fees of other Ferengi ventures, bribes, and plain simple blackmail. This system of government creates an empire which is extremely unstable; unstable as the Ferengi themselves.
Sources were equally unable to collect much information on Ferengi family life, due to the reclusive nature of Ferengi females. What has been determined is that the Ferengi Trade Alliance is solely dominated by the male gender. The female Ferengi are mostly kept out of sight of other Ferengi and outworlders. The Ferengi place great value in the appearance of their females, and hence Ferengi females are not clothed.
In addition, sources have not been able to observe or identify any strong family ties among the Ferengi. Ferengi males are just as likely to cheat, steal, or murder their own fathers, brothers, and sons without any thought or feelings of remorse.
The combination of their lack of strong family ties, lack of honor, and the Ferengi ever-consuming quest for power and wealth make them a potentially dangerous and unpredictable opponent. While the Rihannsu Star Empire and the Ferengi Trade Alliance are on good diplomatic terms, if you encounter them in a situation you are strongly encouraged to contact the highest ranking Kiith Mrevhoqq'ghi present for our current relations with the Ferengi Trade Alliance.
