These starships formed the backbone of the Klingon Defense Force for decades. The D7-type vessels were in service in the 2260s and shared with the Rihannsu Star Empire during the brief alliance between the two powers. These vessels, some 228 meters in overall length, were equipped with warp drive and phase-disruptor armament. By the 2280s, an uprated version, known as the K't'inga-class vessel, was introduced into service. The Rihannsu have been trying to phase these vessels out and remove them from their fleet, and are slowly but surely doing so as more modern vessels come into service.
In addition to the K't'inga class vessels, the Rihannsu Empire use Klingon Aehkhifv class frigates, although these are being phased out in favor of the newer Rihannsu designs. Overall, the Klingon vessels have proven to be inferior designs, which was a contributing factor to the breakup of the Rihannsu-Klingon alliance.
